RICHMOND, Va. – For those of us not lucky enough to see the landscape and culture of Peru first hand, we can now experience the beauty of the country through the art of a group of Virginia Commonwealth University students.
The 2009 participants from VCU’s Summer Study Abroad program in Peru exhibited their art from March 1st until the 12th in VCU’s student commons.
The gallery was called Inspiration: Peru. VCU student and coordinator of the gallery, Deborah Shapiro, shared her once in a lifetime experience.
“The textiles, the landscape, the combination of Incan and Spanish architecture; the whole country was so beautiful and colorful.”
The group traveled through Lima, Cuzco, and the Sacred Valley as well as other sites along the coast of Peru for a month last summer. This visual exploration inspired artwork including photographs, paintings and more.
