Larry Sanders Talks About VCU Basketball

RICHMOND, Va. — The VCU men’s basketball season ended with a one-point loss to UCLA last season in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Larry Sanders, VCU‘s junior center, says the team is using that loss a motivation as for the upcoming season.

“We’ll get back there and we won’t let it happen again,” said Sanders.

Sanders recently sat down with VCU InSight to talk about this season, the new head coach, and his views on playing basketball.

Arena At Siegel Gets Name Change

RICHMOND, Va. – The basketball arena at the Siegel Center just north of the Virginia Commonwealth University campus in Richmond recently got a name change.

The arena was called the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center since being built in 1999.  Now it is called the Verizon Wireless Arena.

VCU Program Encourages Student Athletic Donations

RICHMOND, Va. – One year ago, Virginia Commonwealth University Athletics started a membership program called the Student Ram Athletic Fund. The program’s goal is to get students to donate money in support of VCU’s sports teams.

Students pay $25 to join the program. The money goes to the Athletic Department to help cover costs.

“And that’s…how we raise the money for scholarships and it helps them get better equipment,” said Alex Fotiou, the Assistant Director of Development and Corporate Sponsorships.

Teague Talks VCU Sports

RICHMOND, Va.–Sports are an important part of any university. They bring in students, donors and bring out the best in school spirit.

On the for front of VCU Sports is the Men’s Basketball team. With back to back CAA regular season championships, one CAA tournament title and one of the top players in the nation in point guard Eric Maynor, the team steals the headlines and the fans.
