Movieland Opening Helps VCU Children

RICHMOND, Va.– A new movie theatre recently opened in Richmond. Movieland Cinemas is located on Boulevard Avenue, just past the Diamond Stadium, and it’s already making its mark as a partner in the community.

The cinemas complex was once a locomotive factory. Movieland retained much of the original building and even has artifacts on display that were found during construction. The historic building, combined with the locomotive atmosphere, helps make Richmond’s newest attraction so unique.

MCV Facility Dog Helps Children Cope

RICHMOND, Va–The Virginia Treatment Center for Children at Virginia Commonwealth University recently added a four legged friend to their staff.

Bahia is a two-year-old golden retriever and lab mix. She is specially trained to assist people with disabilities. This canine’s warm nature and intuitive personality is affective in treating children with mental health issues; many who have led troublesome lives.

Adults Learn How to Swim at MCV’s Pool

RICHMOND, Va- Aisha Moten is a Virginia Commonwealth University student by day and instructor by night–and her class meets in a swimming pool. She’s one of the certified instructors in VCU’s Learn to Swim program.

VCU offers classes at its MCV campus pools to help adults learn this vital task throughout a seven week session. Moten realizes the importance of knowing how to swim in a life-threatening water circumstance. Coupled with her passion for people, she said she’s led to share her swimming knowledge with her adult students.

“I know a lot of people might not really know how to swim, or they might think they know how to swim,” says Moten. “But I think everybody should definitely learn how to swim.”
