The Historic Richmond Foundation is the oldest non-profit organization in Richmond. Founded in 1935, the Historic Richmond Foundation preserves the historic assets that define Richmond’s unique character.
Katie Kelley, the foundation’s marketing manager, says that preserving Richmond’s history has real results.
“Sixteen years ago we saved The National Theater on Broad St. from demolition and if we had never done that, it would never have opened as a wonderful performance venue today,” said Kelley.
The Historic Richmond Foundation focuses on areas of Richmond that are covered by one of several areas on the National Register of Historic Places. In Richmond that includes the neighborhoods of Jackson Ward, Church Hill, Monroe Ward, and other parts of Broad Street.
The foundation encourages the residents of Richmond to get involved.
“One thing you can do is go onto our website, www.historicrichmond.com to see what issues we are currently working on,” said Kelley.
Other ways to get involved with the foundation is to attend events that they put on and read newspapers to follow what’s going on in city council and their monthly commission of architecture reviews.
