RICHMOND, Va – Virginia Commonwealth University has opened its new Transfer Center.

The Transfer Center serves all potential incoming and current transfer students. The center’s staff also hopes to address the confusion of what credits incoming students can transfer.

The Center is in its beginning stages but hopes to become a full service operation–the central go-to place for students to have their questions answered.

Interim Director, Dr. Martha Lou Green, notes VCU sees many different kinds of students transferring to its campuses.

“We understand that even though many of these students will have had education at other institutions, both two-year and four-year, they haven’t been to VCU. And we are a very special place and we want them to be very comfortable,” she said.

VCU is working closely with the Virginia Community College system to ensure that their master course file is matched with courses here at VCU and are transferrable.

Dr. Green says the Transfer Center is for building relationships with the students–but it’s not a new idea.

“The Transfer Center isn’t just something that’s happened overnight. It’s been conceptualized for at least two years,” she said.

With over 1900 transfer students arriving at VCU for the Fall 2008 semester alone, the Transfer Center has its work cut out for it–and hopes to make the transition for students as smooth as possible.
